Some model car design history

Here we have some history on the model car design process with a few kits known as “test shots” of the 66 Ford Mustang, 80s Corvette and 64 Pontiac GTO. Test shots are discarded after the injection mold die’s are finished and sent off to the customer, in this case the customer being Monogram circa 84 – 86.

The pics below show the mustang before door handle and scripts were added, as well they show the cowl vents missing then later added as the mold takes shape.

There is also an area on the blue body mustang where the mold didn’t take, or perhaps not enough plastic to finish.

On one occasion to the bin, even the blueprints were discarded. Here we see blueprints for the Monogram GTO. Most are stamped “approved for production” and dated.
